15/10/2003 - 9:41 a.m. Strange Days Indeed Matthew Shepard died in 1998. (For those of you who don't know The Laramie Project or The Matthew Shepard Story, check it out, do some research.) As if it isn't horrible enough that Shepard's mother is persued by Fred Phelps everywhere she goes to talk about her son, they're erecting, essentially, a "Burn in Hell Matthew" sculpture. I signed the petition. I realise that it is freedom of expression, and Phelps and his group are standing up for what they believe in, but if the gay community were as hateful, I would oppose that as well. There is no cause to be so horrible and hateful and unrelenting. I wish Phelps would look in the Bible again (since he revers it so) and find the "love thy neighbor" passage. It seems to me that causing such havoc and casting people into hell, as he's doing, is more satanic than devine. I don't know if signing can make any difference. He'll probably just put it up in a different park and it'll probably be vandalised. However, it can't hurt. Take a look, decide for yourselves.
