Part 16

Lisa realised how uncomfortable she was making him. She knew she ought to talk to him, the problem was, she didn't have anything to say. Why didn't he have anything to say? Well, she knew the answer to that.

It wasn't her fault. If he didn't like it, he could just leave her on the sidewalk someplace, or take her home, they didn't need to see each other again. Then she remembered her conversation with Emily. If she was honest with herself, she was ready for a change.

She looked at him, concentrating on the road and not on her. She wondered if he thought she looked good or not. She wondered why she'd never learned how to read guys. She wondered why she cared. What was all this leading up to? Why argue with herself over stupid things? She wished herself home, closed her eyes counted to three, opened her eyes and found herself still in the car.

Now or never.

"Are you interested in a wedding?" she asked.
